Courion's New Wireless Provisioning Solution Helps Healthcare Providers Improve Productivity and Compliance
Publish Date : 2/25/2008 7:02:00 AM Source : Mobile and Gadgets News Onlypunjab.com
Courion® Corporation, the provisioning experts for results-driven operations, today announced availability of a new Connector for the company’s Enterprise Provisioning Suite™ solution, which integrates with the BlackBerry® Enterprise Solution from Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM). With the new Connector, organizations in the healthcare industry using the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution can ensure mobile access is granted automatically to new doctors, nurses and administrative staff, thereby improving productivity through immediate access to email, text messaging and intranet applications. To support compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and hospital IT policies, Courion, leveraging the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, also allows mobile access to be immediately disabled if a staff member’s status changes.
The new Connector is an important addition to the Courion Enterprise Provisioning Suite’s already-rich connector library. With this version of the Connector, healthcare providers using the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution further benefit from a comprehensive solution for user provisioning, password management, compliance and role management that has the built-in flexibility to manage the complexities of increasingly mobile work environments. “With increased coverage, security and integration, Wi-Fi and cellular will have a profound effect on how patient care is delivered,” said Barry Runyon, research director, Gartner. “As wireless adoption has the potential to positively impact clinical workflow and timely access to information, smartphones are now part of the typical physician’s and nurse’s mobile portfolio used for business activities such as results viewing, clinical alerts, email and schedule checking.”
Balancing Improved Mobility and Productivity with Policy Compliance
Using converged communications devices, such as BlackBerry smartphones, clinicians can benefit from improved communications and access to patient data while on the move. As part of a complete user provisioning and access compliance solution, Courion’s Connector leverages the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software enabling healthcare providers to:
Add, delete and change the configuration for BlackBerry smartphone users
Disable a user’s BlackBerry smartphone
Apply and remove IT policies to a BlackBerry smartphone user
Add and remove BlackBerry smartphone users from BlackBerry groups
Add and remove BlackBerry smartphone users from software configurations
View a user’s profile information in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (i.e. BlackBerry group, MDS PIN and applied IT policies)
Change a user’s activation password and activation password expiration time on the BlackBerry smartphone
“Increased wireless adoption can create more complexity for healthcare providers and their IT administrators. Organizations and healthcare professionals must now balance productivity gains via mobility with compliance concerns. User provisioning for mobile devices is equally as important as granting access to key systems and applications to ensure a seamless continuum of care,” said Kurt Johnson, vice president of corporate development, Courion. “By offering automated provisioning of BlackBerry smartphones, Courion is providing clinicians immediate access to critical patient information through email, text messaging and intranet applications that can improve response times and overall patient care. With this new capability, Courion automates provisioning across new hires, relocations, transfers and terminations with tools and resources beyond IT accounts.”
