A garage start-up webzine originating in 2001, Mediaburn branched out to become the word for a new kind of media company. Pioneering the fields of blogging, podcasting and social networking, the publication soon became synonymous with the changing media landscape. Founder Gary Santoro established the magazine with a distinctive and futuristic outlook. Converging the topics of art, technology, science and citizenship, Mediaburn celebrates and creates a culture of independence.
"Mediaburn is a thought and a movement. Mediaburn is the common feeling in this new year," says Gary Santoro. "There aren't many companies like us. The concepts conveyed are quite striking to our readers and members." Much of the editorial work is done by Santoro with readers observing and participating in a creative process as the website takes shape. "A number of early bloggers were, and still are a part of the magazine's direction, Mediaburn was also a promoter of the software that led to podcasting. We constantly feature new material on our podcasting channels." Mediaburn carves out a space for an evolving world of topics - news, health, fashion, indie music, action sports, and whatever else enters the radar screen in a given week. For Mediaburners, the rider and wave have become the archetypal metaphor.
