When asked how she went from second grade teacher to author, Mrs. Adams says, "One morning this guy, who said he was a publisher and loved my column, called and said, 'Hey, I've got a great idea about a book you need to write. What if you identified and explained the five things a parent can do to ensure she raises her children to be productive humans? Give parents the infallible keys to success'." Mrs. Adams laughs when she explains, "I couldn't believe someone wanted my expert advice. Although, before I had children, I knew what every parent I saw was doing wrong and exactly what they needed to do right, I have no clue now. It's like going through labor and delivery gave me brain damage. I explained politely that parenting is one of those things that the more you do it, the less you understand it."

But the idea of writing a book stuck; thus was born If Mama Don't Laugh, It Ain't Funny, a laugh out loud account of her personal journey through the maze of marriage and children. "From my years as a teacher, I've come to understand that most parents have the same hopes and dreams for their offspring, share the same struggles in helping their kids develop into people that others will enjoy spending time with and know the same frustrations of trying to maintain a close relationship with a husband or wife while also surviving the demands of daily life. But as parents and spouses we are all guilty of not stepping back from the chaotic moments and appreciating them for what they truly are -- hysterical."

Adams' fans, who mostly know her from her weekly column, can meet her in person at book signings scheduled across the Southeast. One of the first stops on her tour will be the Augusta Preparatory Day School where she teaches second grade and enjoys regular laughs with her students.
