Top of the Pops has been axed from BBC One.
The news comes one year to the date after the programme underwent a high profile revamp with new presenter Tim Kash.
Despite initially attracting a respectable audience, ratings have since fallen back to 3 million and Kash left the show reports Digitalspy.
"Top of the Pops has enjoyed a great life on BBC One and the production team have done a wonderful job with the series," said BBC One controller Lorraine Heggessey.
"We will continue to support popular music with high profile specials from leading artists - this week's Ivor Novello Tribute to Sir Elton John for example - and showcase new musical talent in programmes such as Friday Night with Jonathan Ross."
From next Spring the show will take up residence on BBC Two on a new night, Sunday evenings, to create a "closer relationship" with Radio 1's chart show, which is also being revamped at the same time.
Top of the Pops 2 will be axed, but the new format promises to combine performances from the music archive with those from modern acts in order to "appeal to a diverse audience of music lovers."
BBC Two controller Roly Keating said that the programme would find a "natural home" on his channel.
"It's an exciting new era for Top of the Pops. We want to make it bigger and better so that it becomes the ultimate pop music show for music lovers of every generation," he said.
BBC One's Saturday morning spinoff - Top of the Pops Saturday - is expected to be unaffected by the changes.
