The period adaptation made more than 2.5m dollars in its opening weekend, taking four times as much as its nearest rival, reports Contactmusic.

Last week’s top film, prison comedy The Longest Yard, only managed 1.5 million dollars, and bumped down to second place, while The 40 Year Old Virgin came in third.

Australian horror movie Wolf Creek debuted at number four, while Cindrella Man slipped to fifth position during its second week of release.
